About this book

Language: English

Part of the 'Evolution Canyon' model research program, a microcosmic study of evolution from bacteria to mammals. The program investigates the evolution of biodiversity, adaptation and speciation across life at several sites (canyons) in Israel, characterized by sharply ecologically divided interslopes. Out of the 629 species (including 352 genera and 56 families) reported here (314 species) and in the first volume (315 species), one species has been new to science, 10 species have been new to Israel and 30 species have been new to Mt. Carmel. The book significantly contributes to evolutionary theory, and to the fauna of Israel and the Middle East.

Contents

The "Evolution Canyon" project - Methodology of beetle collection - Regional comparisons - Species richness of darkling beetles and ground beetles - Inter- and Intraslope differences in Levantine species and species of "northern" distributions - Conclusions - Acknowledgements - Synopsis - References - Index
