Manipal's birding community, situated in the state of Karnataka in India, as well as its bird list has grown a lot since the release of the first edition of this book. This second edition looks towards addressing the shortcomings of the previous book and updates the available pool of information with the data collected over the past two years.
Manipal's birding community has become very active over the past couple of years. This has meant that now there are more observers looking out for birds and more areas being covered than ever before. The increase in bird species sighted has been inevitable with almost five times the effort put in over the last two years, as compared to the three years before the previous edition was released. This is evident especially since almost 40 species have been added to the list since the previous edition.
The second edition of A Birder's Handbook to Manipal covers the 254 species of birds that have been recorded in Manipal with reliable documentation. These species have been given both full accounts as well as short accounts based on the current status of the birds.
The text and photographs have been updated and changed where needed, which hopefully goes a long way towards improving the reader's experience and will prove to be relevant much longer into the future.
