About this book

Language: English

This book is a collection of photographs of plants found at the Royal Botanical Garden, Serbithang. It is divided into two parts and for ease of identification, the photographs are arranged according to the dominant colours of the flowers, especially of petals or other showy parts of the flower.

The first part contains photographs of ornamental plants found at the Garden. The second part contains photographs of orchids that are currently in the Orchidarium of the Botanical Garden. The flowering times mentioned in this book for both the ornamental plants and the orchids refers to flowering time at Serbithang and might not correspond with the flowering times in other places.

Not all plants have common names and especially so for orchids. Therefore, in order to maintain consistency, we have used only scientific names. For the ornamental plants, where species identity could not be established, we have given only genus and family name and are referred from various literatures (see references). The names used for orchid species follow the Flora of Bhutan. To maintain the simplicity of plant names, the names of the authors of specific epithets have been excluded.
