About this book

Language: Hungarian

This is a monograph on the catfish. North America's largest catfish family (Fam. Ictaluriadae) contains seven living genera including 48 species: Ictalurus (7 species), Ameiurus (7 species), Noturus (29 species), Pylodcitis (one species), Satan (one species), Trogloglanis (one species), and Priatella (two species).

The most interesting is the genus Ameiurus, which contains A. btunneus, A. catus, A. melas, A. natalis, A. nebulosus, A. platycephalus, and A. serracanthus.

Determining stock levels in Europe did not prove an easy task. One reason is that no single species has been selected for introductions: the natural waters of the Mississippi river system where fish have been collected encompass an area where three species distribution areas overlap. These species interbreed in this area, and this possibility persists in their new home.

Summary in Hungarian:
Észak-Amerika egyik legnépesebb halcsaládja a törpeharcsák családja (Fam. Ictaluriadae), melybe hét ma élo nemzetség 48 faja tartozik. Ezek a nemzetségek: Ictalurus (7 fajjal), Ameiurus (7 fajjal), Noturus (29 fajjal), Pylodcitis (1 faj), Satan (1 faj), Trogloglanis (1 faj), Priatella (2 faj).

A minket leginkább érdeklo Ameiurus nemzetség fajai: A. btunneus, A. catus, A. melas, A. natalis, A. nebulosus, A. platycephalus és A. serracanthus.
