Magnificent encapsulation of the unique flora of the the Seychelles by the winner of the Linnean Society's prestigious Jill Smythies Medal for botanical illustration. In 1985 the Oxford University Biological Expedition to the Seychelles studied the vegetation on several of the islands. Wise, the department's artist, was asked to accompany the expedition. Alarmed by the rarity and endangered status of many of the plants she encountered, Wise spent the next ten years painting all of the endemic flora in their natural habitat. The result is this extraordinary testament.
`A most welcome addition to the botanical literature because it brings to us such a collection of rare and little-known botanical treasures', Sir Ghillean Prance.
