Pete Carr first visited the Chagos in 1996 as a serving Royal Marine Commando, he ended his thirty-three years in the military with a two year tour on Diego Garcia. During those final two years he visited every island in the Archipelago at least once and the Important Bird Areas over five times. He is now employed on Diego Garcia as the Environmental Manager for the Base Operating Service Contractor, where his interests in the natural history of the Chagos continues.
