In this first comprehensive survey of the Aleocharinae fauna of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), 172 species in 47 genera and 12 tribes are reported
for the province. One new tribe, Boreocyphini Klimaszewski and Langor, was erected to accommodate Boreocypha Klimaszewski and Langor, gen. n.
Thirty-two new species are described.
In addition to the 32 newly described species, we report 103 new provincial records for NL, including six new Canadian records. The NL fauna includes 26 adventive species of palaearctic origin, 14 holarctic species, and four species of undetermined status (holarctic or adventive). Adventive species constitute 15% of the total known aleocharine fauna of the province. The following new synonymy is established (first name being valid): Atheta fanatica Casey = Atheta irrita Casey. All species accounts include a short diagnosis, collection data, distribution in Canada, a colour habitus image, and black and white images or drawings of genital structures of both sexes. Keys to tribes, genera and species (with the exception of Atheta s. l.) are provided.
