What's this?

Divided into two sections, the book initially looks at a variety of background issues including pond history, amphibian and reptile biology, and surveying techniques. The bulk of the book is made up of a series of detailed species accounts covering the distribution, distinguishing features, habitats, behaviour, and practical conservation of each of the native species of amphibians and reptiles as well as all of Surrey's more recently introduced inhabitants. The book is completed by a series of superb colour photographs and specially commissioned black and white illustrations by Paul Veenvliet, which not only aid the reader with species identification but also illustrate examples of rarely seen behaviour.
