Ascension - an island you will never forget. It seems as if a mother volcano has squatted there and a group of baby volcanoes settled around her. You will find it the strangest of all islands you will visit. Strange it is, yet fascinating.
This was written by an American admiral in 1925 prior to the visit of the research ship "Blossom". Other visitors have been so complimentary and the first impression of the island gained by most people is not very favourable. You see a vista of red and black hills and much volcanic ash with very little visible greenery, but further nvestigation will quickly reveal that there is plenty of interest and beauty on the island.
