By: Toni Mingozzi(Author), Giovanni Boano(Author), Claudio Pulcher(Author)
513 pages, 21 plates with colour photos; colour distribution maps
This monograph is the most extensive ornithological Atlas project that has been compiled up to now in Italy and it is also the most complete document published on the breeding avifauna of Piedmont; in this way, it is a reference point for subsequent interventions on the conservation biology of relevant species, communities or biotopes. On a cartographic grid survey of 341 10-km sided squares, 158 observers supplied over 70,000 records during five years of field work. A total of 189 bird species were found breeding. Each one of the species has a distribution map with a coloured thematic background, accompanied by a commentary text that describes the regional habitat, horizontal and vertical distribution, population density, recent changes and migratory status. A transparent overlay for the distribution maps is included.
