The BatNav geo-tags your Anabat bat calls with the GPS coordinates of the bat. Use it for any type of bat transect survey, whether walked, ridden, driven, or by boat. Avaiable for both the Anabat SD1 and Anabat SD2.

Why use the BatNav?
* Small and compact - no need for additional GPS units (e.g. Garmin Etrex), or PDA bracket and PDA
* Powered by your Anabat - no external power or batteries are required.
* Easy to use - no settings to change or adapter cables to lose - just plug it in and go!
* Weather-proof with a non-slip magnetic base - attach it to the front of your Anabat, to your car dashboard or roof, or stow it in a rucksack thanks to the 1.2m cable
* Based on GlobalSat SiRF Star III GPS chipset - the unit is very sensitive and can work under tree canopies or even within buildings.

Map your bat calls
The BatNav comes with the BatNav KML Generator to quickly map your bat calls in Google Earth. The bat calls are separated by species according to your Analook labels, enabling you to choose which species are displayed - quickly focus on particular species.

Your transect route is also plotted so you can see, perhaps more importantly, where there weren't any bats. Repeated surveys can be overlaid, or multiple surveyors' results can be plotted to visualise a large site.

The BatNav KML Generator requires Microsoft Excel, but removes the need to use GPSUtility or any other additional software.

Benefits

The BatNav is a cost-effective and simple to use Anabat accessory, and means every single bat transect survey can be easily geo-tagged. Surveyors require minimal additional training to use the equipment in the field, with a very simple survey protocol. It can be used for all types of bat transect survey, including:
* Walked transects - surveys of large development sites, or a series of transects as required for wind turbine developments
* Ridden transects - the BatNav was originally developed to support the Cardiff and Valleys Bat Groups' Bats and Bikes Project. Wildwood Ecology's weatherproof microphone mounts were fastened to bike helmets, with the Anabat unit stowed in a rucksack for true hands-free surveying!

The KML Generator will save you hours of time as it plots all your data on Google Earth with just a few clicks of your mouse. From labeled Anabat calls to a detailed map takes less than 60 seconds. Your data remains on your computer, with no confidential site or species data sent to Google.
