This is a comprehensive review of the 119 species currently known from the Indian Subcontinent. Zoogeographically diverse, the Indian Subcontinent not only includes endemic species and genera but also many taxa that are familiar to bat workers from Europe and Japan. Some species have an essentially south-east Asian distribution, being common in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia whilst others are associated with the Philippines, New Guinea and northern Australia. A few occur in sub-Saharan Africa. As such, Bats of the Indian Subcontinent seeks to stimulate all those with an interest in Old World bats.
