Biotechnology processes are fundamentally changing the nature of the products being produced in the industry. Since 1990 when the commercialization of a variety of genetically modified (GM) tobacco first appeared in the agri-food system, a host of other GM crops including corn, cotton, soybeans, canola and flax have been released.
