These surveys, all conducted in the Tumbesian region of Ecuador, highlight the rich biodiversity of the region and the urgent need for conservation action there. The surveys (taken at Bosque Protector Cerro Blanco, the ridge-top forest at Reserva Ecologica Manglares-Churute, and Hacienda Gonzalez, a previously unknown private property) recorded 261 species of birds. In addition, 25 species of large mammal and seven genera of bats were also logged.
