Widely considered to be Cheshire's foremost living ornithologist, Professor David Norman is a passionate advocate for nature conservation, and in 2002
was awarded the BTO's Tucker Medal for his outstanding scientific contributions in surveying, nest-recording and ringing birds. One of the two
independent members of the UK's Rare Breeding Birds Panel, David has also served on the Councils of English Nature and the RSPB, and as Chairman of
Cheshire Wildlife Trust. His previous publications include The Fieldfare, papers and articles on a wide variety of birds, and co-authorship of the
first breeding bird Atlas of Cheshire and Wirral. Cheshire and Wirral Ornithological Society (CAWOS) promotes the recording, study and researching of
the status of birds in the area. Membership is open to all who are interested in wild birds, be they beginners or experienced birdwatchers, and
members receive a thrice-yearly magazine and a copy of the annual Cheshire and Wirral Bird Report. Further details can be found at www.cawos.org or
from the Membership Secretary at memsec@cawos.org.
