With illustrations by David Quinn
This monograph deals with the Black-billed Magpie, which occurs throughout much of the Northern Hemisphere and is the species familiar to most Europeans, and the Yellow-billed Magpie, which is confined to California. The author compares both species, and also the many different races, and reveals that through their remarkably flexible social behaviour magpies are able to exploit a diversity of habitats, from desert to farmland.
Digital reprint of a book originally published in 1991.
