Describes and illustrates all the birds found in Africa south of the Sahara, including Socotra and islands in the Gulf of Guinea. The guide covers nearly 2100 species and features more than 3000 captioned images assembled on 340 plates. The paintings portray most distinctive plumages, as well as diagnostic flight patterns and other details where necessary. Text and range maps appear opposite the plates, and up-to-date taxonomy is used, with many new species described and illustrated for the first time. The text contains information on identification features, habitat, status and calls and different groups and families have introductory sections.
