The area covered by this guide is roughly half of France south of a line running from the south bank of the Loire estuary on the Atlantic coast to Lake Geneva (Lac Leman) in the east. For the purpose of the book, the area is divided into 7 regions, each further sub-divided where necessary (the Atlantic Coast, the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean Coast, Corsica, the Alps, and the Centre). Descriptions of each region open with a sketch map identifying numbered birding areas and provide detailed coverage of the areas with clear directions accompanied by colour photographs. A detailed checklist of birds for the area is provided with English, French and scientific names, as well as additonal checklists for mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and butterflies.
