About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Portuguese

This book is the first in a collection of three volumes illustrating some species that make up the rich birdlife of the Brazilian state of Paraná, where – according to recent estimates – a total of 744 species occur. The bird chosen for the cover is the Araucaria Tit-spinetail (Grimpeiro in Portuguese), the bird-symbol of Curitiba, the state capital. This bird maintains a close symbiotic relationship with the Paraná-pine and only live on this kind of tree. These and numerous other facts and trivia are reported in the text by ornithologist Fernando C. Straube, accompanying 156 photos of award-winning photographer Marcelo Krause.
