About this book

This joint publication of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and CAB International, provides a comprehensive review of the biology and management of "Busseola fusca", the African maize stalk borer. This insect is a major pest, especially on maize and sorghum, throughout Africa south of the Sahara. In the first chapters, the information is presented under subheadings of pest status and crop loss assessment, taxonomic descriptions, biology and ecology, and pest management. Pest management practices involving a range of options - cultural, plant resistance, biological, legislative, and chemical methods - are also reviewed. The second and major part of the book consists of an annotated bibliography of 447 references published between 1901 and 1990. References are presented under broad subject headings to facilitate easy cross reference to the first part of the book.
