About this book

Language: German

Pisces, the present volume of the Catalogus Fossilium Austriae, represents – according to the general directions of this series – a complete list of all literature references and descriptions of fish fossils from Austrian territory. Additionally, specimens of scientific collections were included, curated at the Geological Survey of Austria (Vienna), the Inatura in Dornbirn, the Museum of Natural History Vienna, the Institute of Palaeontology of the University of Vienna, the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, the Department Applied Geosciences and Geophysics of the University of Leoben, the Landesmuseum Kärnten in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, the Institute of Geology of the University of Innsbruck, and also some private collections.

A wide range from isolated teeth, bones, and single otoliths to nearly complete fish fossils were listed in the systematic classification. Most taxa are documented with photographs of Austrian specimens (96 plates). Following the synonymy lists selected important information, indication of the holotype and locality lists in stratigraphical order are provided. Besides the references from Austria also the most important systematic and palaeogeographic remarks from outside Austria are listed. With an extensive register of localities and a taxonomic index the volume is completed.
