This volume summarises a series of regional surveys and is based on 2102 species lists from Britain and Ireland. Since most water beetle species are predatory and the number of predatory invertebrates at any site is an indicator of environmental quality, this group is interesting in that it possesses all the attributes needed for the evaluation of the conservation status of wetland sites.
