About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish

This book is the first comprehensive field guide for the common flora of the southwestern section of the Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica) including Cabo Blanco, proving to be a useful and interesting reference for the casual visitor while at the same time meeting the technical and detailed requirements of the student or researcher. It contains detailed descriptions and illustrations for 106 species of trees and several other woody plants that are either common to the Reserve or rare species found in few other areas in Costa Rica.

The species descriptions include notes on the geographical distribution, natural history, and local uses of the plant. For easy field identification, the guide includes user-friendly leaf and sap type icons, family descriptions, as well as a general and illustrated glossary. An introductory chapter presents an orientation to the geography, climate, ecology, and land use history of this understudied region.
