About this book

Language: German

The fox is one of the animals that is exemplary for the recapture of the city by nature. Today foxes have settled in many cities in Germany. As primarily nocturnal animals, they use the times and places where an encounter with humans is unlikely. But it is precisely in urban areas that such encounters are increasingly common. Cities with overgrown wastelands, vacant lots, parks and old graveyards offer foxes good residence and hiding places. The book describes the life and behavior of foxes in their retreats in the city. It shows how the animals conquer the appropriate building structures for themselves and manage to integrate into the fabric of the city. Through the unique, enchanting photos and informative texts the reader gets an insight into the life of this normally very shy wild animal in its urban surroundings – so to speak at your door. To take part in the life of both adult foxes, who are traveling as loners, and the juveniles who have to look for new areas, and of course the family life of very social animals who lovingly care for their offspring. Lutz Artmann, architect and photographer, has observed wildife in the city for 15 years. From first chance encounters with foxes he embarked on an intensive search for animals that he found in many places in different cities. Fox observations have become his passion, which he pursues with the camera on forays through the city.
