In this book, the basic functions of the visual process are described. These are similar in humans and in various animals, but may vary greatly in specific aspects. The differences often prove to be optimally adapted to the way of life of the animals.

The textbook is primarily aimed at students of veterinary medicine and biology, and describes the main features of the vision and their differences between animal species. The references provide an invway for further, in-depth study of the different aspects of vision.

Sehen ist für die meisten Menschen ein Vorgang, der uns selbstverständlich erscheint. In Wirklichkeit basiert der Sehvorgang aber auf einem komplexen Zusammenspiel zwischen Augen und Gehirn. In diesem Buch werden grundlegende Funktionen des Sehvorgangs beschrieben. Diese sind bei Menschen und verschiedenen Tieren ähnlich, können sich aber in spezifischen Aspekten stark unterscheiden. Die Unterschiede erweisen sich oft als optimale Anpassung an die Lebensweise der Tiere.
