About this book

The IAWPRC Conferences on Design and Operation of Large Wastewater Treatment Plants are well-established four-yearly meetings of designers, operators, manufacturers and researchers. This volume contains the proceedings of the 6th conference where European, American and South African experience was compared and all the latest developments presented. It was evident that the design of wastewater treatment plants is now more exact and reliable and that plant operators have more sophisticated tools such as on-line monitoring and real-time control. Topics covered include: new approaches to sludge handling and sludge incineration, nutrient removal technologies, successful control of bulking and foaming problems in activated sludge systems. Special attention is paid to the environmental impacts of large wastewater treatment plants, especially with regard to minimizing the volatile compounds, odour and noise emissions.
