The Dictionary of Lichenology is the first work of its class and fills a long-standing need in botanical lexicography, embracing all aspects of lichenology: lichen biology, lichen chemistry, lichens as bioindicators of air quality, medicinal value of lichens, lichen taxonomy, lichen biogeography, lichenological research in the laboratory, the full range of lichen habitats, lichenometry... ln our times lichenological research has evolved in step with recent technological improvements. In view of the speed with which technology is progressing today, it has been necessary to create an exhaustive, accurate, two-way and up-to-date lexicon. Lichenologists and translators will find a wealth of lichen terminology for both languages in this single reference work, thus eliminating the time-consuming need of rummaging through the many dictionaries of various related sciences.
The dictionary consists of two sections, one from English to Spanish, and the other from Spanish to English. Throughout the work the user will find illustrative example sentences of various entries. Included at the back of the dictionary are chemical diagrams of lichen products and chemicals, trilingual lists of tree species, an index of lichen literature in English and Spanish, an index of acronyms and abbreviations for quick reference, and various tables.
The reader should be aware that compound words with a hyphen have been alphabetized as if they were single words without the hyphen. Thus, the entry "lichen-covered tree" appears between "lichen vegetation" and "lichenicolous fungi".
