Using eight country case studies, this book assesses recent policies to address environmental problems in the region and examines the choice of policy instruments used in the various countries. The relationship between the environmental policies of these and other European countries are examined. In addition, the studies debate such issues as: international environmental co-operation; environmental problems within the context of political debate; international financial assistance for environmental projects; and comparative aspects of economic theory and policy concerning resources, the environment and economic growth.
