About this book

Language: French

The order Dermaptera (earwigs) includes a little more than 2000 species. Earwigs are discrete insects, and although known to all, little studied and even more exciting.

This book discusses in great detail our current knowledge of the phylogeny, ecology, behavior, biology etc. of earwigs, and describes, in light of the most recent studies, their behavior, and their very original maternal care to eggs and larvae. It then discusses in detail the twenty species found in France.

The illustration of Gilbert Hodebert (designer at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris), include drawings and watercolours of each species. These are quite remarkable and allow identification of all species. Identification keys accompany a very full text of each taxon.
