Die Graslandgesellschaften Luxemburgs is the first to describe and classify the plant communities of the grassland in Luxembourg. Phytosociological classification is based on own relevés and unpublished data from other authors. The phytosociological evaluation of the 1206 relevés allows to differentiate 31 plant communities from 9 alliances. Description of the grassland communities focuses mainly on species composition, the various flowering aspects and the structural characteristics. Information on the current distribution as well as the syntaxonomic classification and demarcation of the grassland communities are added.
The plant communities are characterized regarding their conservation status, protection value and are classified in line with their status in the EU-Habitats Directive. In addition to own observations and results, the existing knowledge regarding the ecology, land use and value for nature conservation of grassland communities was collected from literature and comprehensively inserted. The main focus of the examined vegetation units is on the species-rich False Oatgrass meadows, wet meadows and nutrient-poor grasslands, with a huge number of rare and endangered species. The results show that Luxembourg still has many species-rich, but also endangered grassland stands, which contribute essentially to the biodiversity of the country and ought to be conserved.
