About this book

Language: Spanish with English introduction

This book has the purpose of being an essay sufficiently well documented about flora and plant formations of the Tachira region in the South-West of Venezuela, which is approximately 11,117 km2, between the 7°21’ - 8°35’ Lat. North and 71°20’ - 72°29’ Long. West. The volume presents: 1) A descriptive part of the physical and climatic environment of the region. 2) A description of the floristical affinities, endemism and phytogeographic relationships, followed by a study of the different phytocenoses in their altitudinal levels. 3) A systematic study of the flora in alphabetical sequence of family treatments. Many of the 4076 species and varieties analysed are endemic or on the limit of geographic areal. The flora of Tachira appears so as one of the richest and varied of Venezuela; in fact we deal with an area extremely complex and differentiated as natural environment and consequently on its floristic estate and botanical ecosystems.
