This two-volume work, which comes in a slipcase, covers all the amphibians and reptiles of North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany. It is the result of more than 17 years of mapping effort by the Working Group on Amphibians and Reptiles of North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to the distribution data, which cover a 100-year period, there is a wealth of information on habitat, socialization, stocks, biometrics, threat and protection of all types. This wealth of data was the reason to create a handbook that deals almost exclusively with results and observations from this part of Germany. It was deliberately decided not to systematically incorporate literature from other states or beyond for comparison.
Handbuch der Amphibien und Reptilien Nordrhein-Westfalens should form a reliable working basis for the coming years for all in North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond who are dealing with amphibians and reptiles, whether it be professionally in government ministries and planning offices or universities, or voluntarily in conservation groups, nature study groups or as individuals.
