Dieses zentrale 3-bändige Werk des großen Ornithologen Günther Niethammer, Vorläufer des "Handbuchs der Vögel Mitteleuropas", hat bis heute nichts von seiner Faszination und Lebendigkeit eingebüßt. Es spiegelt den Stand der Ornithologie in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts wider und ist damit eine einzigartige Quelle zum Vergleich der Vogelwelt gestern und heute. Durch die Einwirkungen des 2. Weltkrieges hatte das Gesamtwerk nur eine begrenzte Verbreitung gefunden, so dass dieser Reprint eine Lücke in der Bibliothek vieler Ornithologen schließen wird.
