Ordering from NHBS - Is it safe to order online?
Internet and mail order shopping are very secure methods of buying products and millions of pounds worth of goods are sold online each day. When you order online from NHBS, your bank details are encrypted so they can only by accessed from within our secure customer database.
NHBS uses the strongest and most secure, commercially available version of 256-bit Secure Socket Layers (SSL) encryption, this is well above the industry standard 128-bit SSL used throughout e-commerce.
SSL encrypts all of your personal information, including your credit card number, name and address. This ensures that your details cannot be read as they are transferred over the Internet.
There are three visible indicators that the page (i.e. from the shopping basket onward) you are using is secure:
1) The web address will start with https:// - the ‘s’ stands for secure.
2) A padlock logo contained next to, or within the address bar of your browser, which if hovered over, or clicked on will display technical security information verifying the security of your connection.
3) The ‘Secured by Thawte’ symbol displayed at the bottom of the shopping basket also verifies the security of the connection and if clicked on will display information about the validity of our SSL encryption, which is ensured by this Thawte Digital Certificate.
Please note: NHBS will never ask for your card's PIN number, your account password or your bank details.
If you are contacted or receive an unsolicited e-mail, telephone call or letter that asks you for your password or personal banking information, disregard the request and report the communication to customer services for investigation.
If you would like to read more on the industry standard protection system ‘Secure Sockets Layer’ (SSL) which NHBS uses to make shopping online safe, click here.
If you are worried about shopping online, please contact Customer Services and we will be happy to discuss this with you further and work out a way of completing your transaction in a way which is satisfying to you. - Standing Orders
A Standing Order is a service offered by NHBS, where we supply each new volume published in a book series automatically, without specific action necessary by the customer. When you set up a Standing Order for a series, we will send you each new volume as it is published. Your credit card won't be charged until the book is dispatched.
Firm Standing Orders require a valid credit card or an invoice account, and a delivery address.
Notify Standing Orders are also available. They will ensure that we notify you of new volumes published in a series in advance of publication. Notify Standing Orders require a valid email address or mailing address.
Please contact Customer Services for setting up a standing order, or for updating your credit card information. - Can I order from outside the UK?

If you have forgotten your password and would like us to send you a new one please visit the following page:
www.nhbs.com/login/forgotpass.php
If this doesn't work then you have probably used a different email address to the one you are trying to log-in with. Please try to log-in with your old email address (the one you have used previously on www.nhbs.com) and send us an email, or leave a comment on your order with your new email address. Please include your old email address and/or customer number for reference. - How do I change the email address used for my NHBS online shopping account?
If you wish to change the email address associated with your account please contact Customer Services with both your new and old email address details and your customer number if you know it. - How do I check the status of my order?
If you would like to find out about the status of your order, please go to My Account. The status of every order you placed with NHBS since July 2009 can be found under My Recent Orders. - Do I have to pay VAT and import tax?
The only charge from NHBS is postage & packing, which is added on to the cost of your purchase at the checkout. There are no hidden charges from NHBS.
When ordering goods for delivery outside of the European Union, you may be subject to import duties and taxes which are levied once the package reaches your country. Any additional charges for customs clearance is the responsibility of the customer as we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country, so you should contact your local customs office for further information with regard to your order with NHBS.
Books and maps are exempt from VAT in the UK. VAT at the standard UK rate of 15% is also included in the advertised price of DVDs, CDs and other electronic media so there are no hidden charges from NHBS.
If you live in any of the EU member states and are registered in your own country for sales tax, you should state your sales tax number when ordering from NHBS. If you do this, we will exclude UK VAT from your bill. Your sales tax number will then be quoted on your invoice, together with our own VAT number (GB 407 4846 44) so you can declare the purchase to your authority. EU customers registered for sales tax purchasing DVDs, CDs and other electronic media should therefore remit 86.96% of their prices.
If you live in the EU, but are not registered for sales tax, you will pay the advertised price for DVDs, CDs and other electronic media, which includes VAT at the standard UK rate of 15%.
If you live outside the EU, we will automatically exclude VAT from your bill. Non-EU customers purchasing DVDs, CDs and other electronic media should therefore remit 86.96% of their prices. - How long will it take for my order to be processed?

You can also set some delivery options, such as our express delivery service and your delivery destination (for more information on our delivery services, click here).

- When will my credit/debit card be charged?
We will not charge your credit/debit card until the day your order is ready to be dispatched or part-dispatched to you.
Your card will be charged for the GBP-sterling value of goods dispatched. - When will my cheque be banked?
We will bank your cheque on receipt, not at the point of dispatch. If you wish to alter or cancel your order prior to dispatch, please contact Customer Services to arrange a refund. - Why do the prices of books change from time to time?
All prices listed on our website and in our catalogues are subject to change at any time. Most changes we make to the prices of books result from publishers' price changes. Other changes may be caused by variations in shipping rates and currency fluctuations.
We will always inform you of a significant change to the price of a title you have ordered from us. You will be able to change or cancel your order at this time. - Ordering with Credit or Debit Card
We can accept the following credit cards and debit cards: VISA, VISA Debit, Mastercard, American Express, and Switch/Maestro (excluding VISA Electron and PayPal).
We will ask you for the CVV or CSC code of your card. In the case of VISA, VISA Debit, Mastercard, and Switch/Maestro, this code is printed on the back of your card, and consistes of three digits in or near the signature field; or, in the case of American Express, the CVV code consists of four digits printed on the front of your card above the card number. This code is often required as added security for transactions where the cardholder is not present.
All charges to your card will be made in Pounds Sterling. If your card is issued by a bank outside the UK, your bank will calculate the exchange rate, and you may be charged a foreign transaction fee. Please contact your card issuer for more information.
NHBS will not charge your card until your order is ready for dispatch. Please contact Customer Services if you have open orders or standing orders, and your card number or expiry date has changed.
