This bilingual publication is the fourth in a series of atlases on the histology of the Atlantic cod. (Volume 1: digestive tract; Volume 2: respiratory system; Volume 3: reproductive organs). Volume 4 contains 211 photographic plates of specimens (some in colour) prepared for light, transmission, and scanning electron microscopy, along with whole mount skeletal preparations. The methodology for preparing the slides is described in the introduction. Cultured cod larvae are used to illustrate the development of cultured cod from hatching to 54 days. Light micrographs of wild cod illustrate later stages, up to metamorphosis.
