Deals with the four living species of the family Hyaenidae: the striped hyaena, the brown hyaena, the spotted hyaena and the aardwolf. Hyaenas are important and influential components of most African and some Asian ecosystems. Unfortunately, human interests often conflict with those of hyaenas to a greater extent than with many other groups of animals, and as a result they suffer the effects of strong negative feelings towards them.
