About this book

This is the much needed complete book on the Conidae since Cone Shells by Jerry Walls  published in the late 1970's. John Tucker and Manuel Tenorio are recognized experts on this family and have collaborated in the past on a book revising the taxonomy of the Conidae at above the species level Systematic Classification of Recent and Fossil Conoidean Gastropods (2009) and in several sections of the Conchological Iconography, and John is also the author of The Cone Shells of Florida (2013). Illustrated Catalog of the Living Cone Shells features very sharp and clear high resolution photos of all of the cone species recognized as valid by the authors, as well as a complete review as to the taxonomic placement for these shells. Also listed in the text, as well as in an extensive index, are the names and placement of taxa that are considered to be not valid. This will be a boon to professional and amateur malacologists who have to struggle to see their way through the many names that have been given to the shells in this family, both recently and in the past.

With the publication of Illustrated Catalog of the Living Cone Shells a new new website will launch, www.conecatalogupdate.com, which will offer information about shells described after the publication of the book as well as any revisions made by John, Manuel and others who wish to contribute scientifically documented research on these shells. Their aim is to keep this book as fresh and as updated as possible since Illustrated Catalog of the Living Cone Shells will be the standard reference work on the Conidae for a very long time to come.
