This CD-ROM contains information on reptiles and amphibians occurring in the British Isles. Some species are common and are widespread, others are
only found locally.
The system treats all 12 native species and 12 alien species (many of them breed successfully in the British Isles). Three species native to the Channel Islands are included, two of which were also introduced elsewhere. Five species of sea turtles are presented as well.
This user-friendly information system is intended as a quick reference tool to identify the species and learn about their habitats and habits. It holds short descriptions of each species and higher taxa, over 200 photographs, 10 sound files, a glossary of the most important terms, an overview of literature and pointers to some relevant websites.
To simplify identification, there are two identification keys. The Picture Key is based on pictures, while the IdentifyIt key is based on characters chosen by the user. It is possible to bookmark species that have been spotted, and to keep a record of your own observations.
This CD-ROM is a valuable addition to all digital libraries and is an essential field guide for nature lovers and amateur biologists.
