About this book

Language: German

The tidal flats in the Wadden Sea, the intertidal zone in the southeastern part of the North Sea, are not just a recreational area with increasing visitor numbers, but is also an ecologically very sensitive and exciting habitat, which is characterized by its dynamic tides. There are extreme conditions such as temperature and salinity fluctuations, drying and flooding. All creatures in the area that are influenced by the tides are especially adapted to the circumstances.

This didactically aligned textbook fills a gap by explaining biological systems in a clear way and is therefore aimed at the target group of interested visitors. Starting with an introduction to the geographical area with its history, the most important animal and plant species are systematically explained. Simple experiments with often astonishing results help to better understand their uniqueness. The authors represent the food webs and ecological networks and give suggestions for the implementation of excursions and activities in non-school establishments.
