About this book

Language: Italian

Volume 2 describes 132 fossil shell species, including 39 species of Muricidae, 4 species of Coralliophilidae, 4 species of Thaididae, 72 species of Buccinidae and 13 species of Fasciolaridae. Every species is accompanied by the original name and the book’s title where the author described it. This is followed by a large bibliography, the distinguishing characteristics, and where possible, the original diagnosis. Also included is a list of the fossil beds and their temporal and spatial distribution. Finally, observations on similar species and comments on nomenclature and ecological spaces are given. The alphabetic index giving specific names contains 560 entries, and the alphabetic of generic and subgeneric names lists 144 entries. The bibliography lists 245 titles.

Malacofauna Pliocenica Toscana isn't only a series dealing with Tuscany's Pliocene fossil shells: it starts from Tuscany's Pliocenic Malacofauna and links it to Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene European fossil shells and the current Malacofauna of the Mediterranean Sea.
