About this book
In many locations around the world, wastewater facilities that diffuse into the sea are seen to be the best treatment option. However the successful implementation of this strategy requires an even better understanding of the underlying science and engineering. The 36 articles in these proceedings have been selected from those presented at a highly successful conference that considered the latest developments in the planning, construction and operation of marine disposal systems. Particular interest was focused on the need to meet increasingly restrictive discharge standards while keeping operational costs at levels affordable in the local economic circumstances. Papers included cover: marine disposal policies; water quality standards and bacteriological indicators; oceanographic and environmental impact studies; and the modelling, design, construction, operation and monitoring of marine disposal systems.
