Illustrated with a wide and comprehensive collection of photographs, this volume is entirely devoted to the butterflies of La Rioja, Spain, and is the result of three years of field work by the five authors of the book. They have been recorded up to 151 species of Lepidoptera, among them many species not previously recorded in the region. Up to 66% of Iberian species are found in this regino. Notably, some species have been found, such as Polyommatus fabressei, Leptidea reali and Callophrys avis whose existence int the region was unknown.

In addition to extensive chapters on analysis of distribution, conservation and other topics, entries contain details about each species such as description, identification, aspects of their biology and ethology, food plants, habitat, distribution, where to observe them, threats and conservation, along with a distribution map, and photographs of the male, female, caterpillar (in most cases) and habitat.

Ilustrado con una amplia y completa colección de fotografías, este volumen dedicado por completo a las mariposas diurnas de La Rioja es fruto de tres años de trabajo de campo por parte de los cinco autores del libro: Yeray Monasterio León, Juan Carlos VIcente Arranz, Ruth Escobés Jiménez, Óscar Moreno Iriondo y Beatriz Parra Arjona. Han censado hasta 151 especies de lepidópteros, de entre ellos muchas especies no citadas previamente en la región. Han encontrado en la provincia hasta un 66% de las especies ibérica. Entre los hallazgos más notables, han encontrado algunas especies como Polyommatus fabressei, Leptidea reali y Callophrys avis que no se sabía de su existencia en La Rioja.

Además de capítulos extensos sobre análisis de la distribución, la conservación y otros temas, las fichas de cada especie contienen detalles sobre descripción, identificación, aspectos de su biología y etologïa, plantas nutricias, hábitat, distribución, dónde observarla y amenazas y conservación, junto con un mapa y la malla de distribución en formato atlas, y las fotografías de la especie macho, hembra, oruga (en casi todos los casos) y hábitat.
