About this book

Extending the scope of the first edition, which was concerned solely with the measurement of crystal growth rates, this second edition is also produced under the auspices of the Working Party on Crystallization (WPC) of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE). Including the measurement of nucleation rates, this edition recommends proven methods, equipment and procedures for growth rate measurements, complete information on parameters relevant to the measured data under discussion, and symbols and units for presentation and publication. It seeks to unify methods and equipment, contributing to the standardization of these kinetic measurements. By using worked examples, the text also makes clear the appropriate treatment of data and the need for close specification conditions. As many of the chapters were worked on by researchers who have recently applied the methods in laboratories, the book also includes detailed descriptions of equipment and apparatus.

Contents

Fundamentals of kinetics; concentration; supersaturation; crystal growth and nucleation rates; growth rate expressions; size dependent growth and growth rate dispersion; shape factors size distributions; nucleation rate expressions; methods of growth rate measurement; fixed single; crystals; rotating disc; batch multiparticle systems; continuous MSMPR crystallizer; mechanical material properties relevant for attrition; methods of growth rate measurement; metastable zone width; measurements; rates of primary nucleation.
