A step-by-step manual and complementary CD-ROM containing tools for managers to carry out a complete company-wide initial environmental review as a pre-requisite for introducing an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 or EMAS. Emphasis is placed on collecting and presenting quantitative data starting with the material and energy flows through the company. The manual also contains indicators for energy, transporation and water use, to help the user compare with other companies. The toolkit includes the following electronic files: a template for the environmental review (Word file), with tables to fill in with data and text; an inventory and calculating tool designed to calculate emissions and the environmental impact of the company's transportation, energy consumption and other activities (Excel file); and instructions and forms for an Environmental FMEA - a method for identifying and evaluating environmental impacts to determine your company's most significant environmental aspects.
