About this book

Richard Evans Schultes has no doubt been one of the most important ethnobotanists of the 20the century. During decades of fieldwork, first in Mexico and then the Colombian Amazon, Schultes amassed a wealth of data later presented to the public in over 400 papers and dozens of books. Much of Medicinal Plants and the Legacy of Richard E. Schultes would, however, not have been possible without dedicated counterparts and students.

Medicinal Plants and the Legacy of Richard E. Schultes contains the proceedings of the first symposium to honor Richard Schultes, which took place in St. Louis, Missouri, on the 10th anniversary of his death. In Medicinal Plants and the Legacy of Richard E. Schultes, many of Schultes' most recognized students present their own perspective on their mentor, his life work, and his influence on their careers. Papers addressing Schultes' legacy and the current state of ethnobotany in the Amazon round out the picture.
