Perfect for use in remote locations when other traps are too cumbersome. Run from a portable 12V battery, there is no need for weighty cables or
generators. The trap packs flat, the light is substantially more robust than other bulbs and the whole thing (excluding the battery) only weighs 1.47
kg. The Moonlander moth trap and Goodden light are turning the principles of moth trapping upside down!
Moonlander Moth Trap
The Moonlander features a ground floor entrance that in field studies can outperform other traps in remote locations. Once the moths enter the trap there is very little chance of escape; when moths become active and try to escape, they tend to fly upwards where there is no chance of escape - overcoming a constant problem with traditional trap designs.
The Moonlander can be suspended or stood on the ground. The legs are designed to give good stability and they raise the trap making it less accessible to ants and other pests. The trap also comes with an additional longer leg for mounting the trap on uneven ground or slopes. The trap has a wide access and enormous space inside, making it ideal for use in tropical areas with large moth numbers.
The trap folds absolutely flat and comes with a handy carry case for easy transportation. The trap is supplied with reticulated foam at the base, but also with a set of reticulated foam moth shelters which are a modern improvement on egg boxes. Given a choice, more moths are found in foam than in egg boxes. If wet, the foam is simply shaken and quickly dries in the air. The foam can be rolled compactly and springs back into shape when required for use.
If desired, the Moonlander can also be fitted with a mercury vapor light, available here. A rain cap is provided with the trap when using a mercury vapor light as the bulb is susceptible to breaking in heavy rain.
GL3 Goodden Light
The GL3 Goodden light is the new generation Gooden light. It is a completely new kind of portable lamp that is both lightweight and robust. Whilst not as effective as Mercury Vapour lights, the Goodden Light has outperformed other trap types when used in remote locations. It also produces more ultraviolet than mercury vapour. Please note that the Moonlander will not attract and catch as many moths as mains-powered moth traps as it is only battery powered.
The light is safe due to its low voltage (12V). It is designed for field use in remote areas and can be run all night from a small battery, available here. In good conditions this light has proved itself capable of attracting hundreds of moths a night. A light sensor on the top of the lamp will turn on the lamp at dusk and turn it off again at dawn. The Goodden light is designed to withstand normal rain so the use of the shower cap (provided) is optional.
The new generation GL3 light, new for 2010, features a more powerful UV light than earlier versions. A cluster of six 10cm tubes replaces the pair of 30cm tubes. This gives the light a more robust design and better shock resistance, making it ideal for travel and use in remote field locations. The advanced electronics feature a photo switch, reverse polarity protection, battery over-discharge protection and indicator lights to confirm when the battery is properly set.
