This important book provides a key to translate and identify names of the 200 species of reptile and 70 of amphibian native to Europe, by their vernacular names. Initial chapters describe classification and nomenclature, and the geographical scope of the book. There then follow 4 indices: by species (giving each species name in up to 39 different languages); by language; by scientific name; and by vernacular name. There are also 3 appendices; subspecies; Canary & Selvagens Islands, Madeira /Canary Islands; and Asiatic Turkey, Cyprus and Transcaucasia.
