About this book

Language: English

From the introduction:
"Preparation of a complete palaeobiological catalogue for a vast region involves detailed considerations of regional as well as local lithostratigraphy and geological maps. A brief review of the work is done as background information, selection and reproduction of the palaeobiologically significant fossil findings, besides analysis and reconstruction of a chronicle of major organic events vis-a-vis interpretation of palaeoenvironmental and palaeogeographic settings through time and space. The literature survey reveals that there exist a wide range of palaeontological literature, particularly on the Proterozoic stromatolites of Rajasthan, Jurassic and Tertiary invertebrates of Kutch, tertiary vertebrates and invertebrates of the Vastan lignite mine area of Gujarat and ammonites of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Literature on the dinosaurian remains of the Kheda District, Gujarat and invertebrates and palynoflora of the Deccan Intertrappeans is also voluminous. There are hundreds of unpublished reports produced by the workers of the Geological Survey of India over more than hundred years covering various palaeontological aspects of nearly all districts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. The authors emphasize the fossil reports, papers, memoirs, books, and monographs that include palaeobiologically significant information and contribute towards the fulfillment of present objectives."
