Jean Pierre Armand David was a French priest who travelled extensively and had a passion for nature. His name will forever be linked with the giant panda, the handkerchief tree and the deer named in his honour as well as the Buddleja (Buddleja Davidii). Armand's love of nature was a road to God and the truth. He travelled more than 7,000 miles much of it on foot and it is estimated that he found more than 1570 plants including 250 new species.
