About this book

The Pictorial Guide to Frogs and Toads of the Western Ghats is designed to help students researchers forest managers photographers and general public in identifying a species in the field along with its status ecology and distribution. Simultaneously it also aims at bringing awareness about amphibians among general public.

Pictorial Guide to Frogs and Toads of the Western Ghats covers 73 species of 156 frogs and toads recorded from the Western Ghats as of date. The guide is structured on the basis of habitats of a species namely terrestrial including burrowing semi aquatic terrestrial aquatic and arboreal. All these habitats are colour coded. In each habitat species are arranged alphabetically. Ecological status of species and endemism are also colour coded. Pictograms for activity pattern, group size relative size are given for quick reference. Distribution maps and habitat photographs provide valuable information on species locality. Quality photographs with key features on them and minimal text explaining them would definitely make the identification easier and better.

A field guide on amphibians is an essential companion if one is interested in frogs and toads. Although there are couple of field guides simple field guides on frogs and toads are lacking in addition to the taxonomic changes happened in last few years.
